Seiko’s model SNDA57 men’s watch is a reasonably-priced affordable timepiece that has a pretty straightforward and simple military-style design, solid build quality, and has a lot of the standard features that most people desire in a contemporary watch. While it’s more of a standard-looking watch designed for daily use in any situation, it does have a very active design and unique aesthetic that does give this piece a certain look of class and quality. Though it is obviously a nice-looking watch, the functionality is also extremely competent and very well-constructed, making this a unique timepiece that combines a well-established, military-style model with both reliable and capable performance to create a formidable product that truly stands out in the market.
SNDA57 Stock Features & More
The Seiko SNDA57 watch comes equipped with some fantastic features that most people come to expect in modern-made watches. The quartz movement system ensures that you’ll always have an accurate and reliable way to read the time, and the stainless steel case ensures that the delicate pieces inside are safe from outside damage. Speaking of the case, it has a thickness of 12mm and a diameter of 42mm, making it look and feel ready to take a beating, although I wouldn’t recommend testing it to find out.
Adding to the features on the SNDA57 is the well-constructed chronograph. The legibility of dial is perfect, and it features Seiko’s unique lume functionality to ensure that you can read the time in the dark just as well as you can in the light. The watch is also water-resistant up to 350 meters, which is a pretty great feature considering many quartz watches are typically only water-resistant up to 50 meters. The dial is very well-printed and has extremely clear and crisp letters and numbers, making sure you can tell the time at just a quick glance.
The details of the SNDA57 are quite nice and standout on an otherwise standard military-style watch. Both the second hand and stopwatch hand have are orange-tone and offer a unique style detail that accentuates the dial as a whole and breaks up monotony. The bezel is stationary and feels very solid, adding to the 2.72oz overall weight of the well-built device. Additionally, the glass covering the dial is constructed of a scratch-resistant hardlex crystal.
Chronograph Quality
As I said, the chronograph is very well-designed and it’s unique layout makes it incredibly easy to read. The subdial at 12 o’clock is used to measure the seconds when using the timer, and the subdial at 6 o’clock is used to measure hours. Though it is up to personal preference as to what layout you prefer, I think the size and location of these subdials are extremely well-made and well-placed. This is usually a feature you’d find on more expensive watches, so it’s great that Seiko was able to include it in the SNDA57.
Keeping with the conventional style of the watch, the dials are against a flat background with white accents, save for the orange-toned timer hands. The hour, minute, and second hands, however, are a stark white and contrast very well against the dark background and looks extremely high-quality and well-made. It can appeal to those who enjoy both simplistic and creative, unique designs.
Final Opinion
Overall, the Seiko Men’s SNDA57 black dial analog watch is a pretty great utility-oriented piece that has both a great appearance and expert build-quality. It’s obvious from the first time you wear it that it’s made to be put through the wringer and come out with a scratch at best. Additionally, though it is a military-style watch designed for daily use, the overall aesthetic of this device provides enough class and style that should be able to satisfy those who look for such qualities in their timepiece.

Where can I buy this ?

New, you can’t. Check out ebay. Unfortunately, Seiko do this regularly, they bring out a great watch, ie, this one and stop producing after 5 years or fewer. This watch is very reminiscent of one by the German manufacturer, Sin, but at a tenth of the price! I love mine, yes, it’s not an automatic which appeals to many collectors, but it’s amazingly accurate, my first battery lasted 7 years plus, the beadblast finish is ultra robust and it looks great. The perfect tool watch for me would be this one, but with a sapphire crystal and a daily alarm. I could sell it, but I’d rather not!
