Citizen BI5010-59E Quartz Stainless Steel Watch Review

November 24, 2016 by Matthew Catellier Leave a Comment — Updated on January 22, 2024

Citizen BI5010-59E Quartz Stainless Steel Watch ReviewIf it’s simplicity, style, and affordability you’re looking for – then it’s time to stop looking. The Citizen BI5010-59E quartz stainless steel watch is aimed at the everyday consumer and brings an attractive – well-crafted piece to the market at an affordable price.

BI5010-59E Technical Design

Its stainless steel band boasts a 41mm diameter case with a simple but stylish design inside – the analog display paired with Japanese quartz makes it stunning to look at. Although the design may fit well for some, I feel that it lacks the wow factor that some of its higher priced models flaunt, and may not be thrilling for someone looking for a more professional style.

The Citizen BI5010-59E weighs in at a tiny 3.5 ounces – meaning it won’t feel too heavy whilst you wear it on a daily basis. The watch also comes with a more or less standard 165ft water resistant depth, nothing to write home about, however, always a good feature to have when you have those unfortunate moments or if you want to wear your watch in the shower.

The dial itself is simple yet effective and comes with a date feature, something which is, for me, surprising to see in a lower priced model. I really like the deep black tone of the face and feel that draws the attention to the dial and second hand, which softly sweeps around with extreme precision, giving the user a second by the second-time update. The case itself – composed of stainless steel, keeps it feeling solid and sturdy and comes sized at 42mm in diameter and 8mm thick, an excellent looking face, perhaps on the larger side of the scale.

The band continues the theme of stainless steel – something which Citizen is more than happy to stick with, and why not? A good quality material with a long life and standard in size, although perhaps slightly uncomfortable to wear in my case. The clasp is just as good, quality wise, and follows the rule of simplicity with an easy fold over and push design.

The BI5010-59E comes battery powered – which for the reasonable price of around $80 isn’t a deal breaker. Unlike its higher priced models, this watch doesn’t come with Eco-drive – the ability to power your watch through any means of light, although the battery does offer a lengthy sentence and shouldn’t cause any hassle with the occasional battery change.

Final Thoughts

My opinion on the Citizen Quartz BI5010-59E has always been the same; a simple but delightful piece of work and I really believe that it offers great value for money. Citizen take pride in the work they complete; and it’s obvious to see this in this case, a well thought out design for the everyday consumer. The simplicity of the face is a great feature for me and is followed up nicely with the deep black color which sets a fantastic contrast to the steel framework. I also love the date feature that comes in this watch, a simple feature like this would make me choose this over a watch that didn’t have it, due to the sheer convenience of being able to quickly glance at the date.

The only downside is that this model doesn’t come with the eco-drive feature, however as mentioned before, I am positive that the price really makes up for this.

Overall, the Citizen Quartz is an excellent value for money watch – providing the everyday user with a great quality timepiece that will last a lifetime.
