Daniel Wellington Men’s 0103DW Watch Review

Daniel Wellington Men's 0103DW Watch Review

If you’re looking for a watch you can wear to any event that requires understated elegance and muted (yet unmistakable) class, you definitely need to consider the Daniel Wellington Men’s 0103DW Watch. This watch reminds me of the powerful elements inherent in Ralph Lauren’s men’s casual fashion designs. They aren’t overbearing. They aren’t out to prove class, wealth, prestige, or power to anyone yet that is exactly the kind of impression they create. If anything, simple classical design’s simplicity and approachability are what makes it so classy. Whether you have a high school reunion that will be held at a fancy restaurant or you’re invited to rub shoulders with the high and mighty in a relaxed casual environment or you just want to accessorize apparel that’s a notch or two higher than your typical jeans and flannel ensemble, this watch is a solid choice.

Design: Classic Cambridge

If this watch is screaming out ‘Preppy,’ you can safely blame its Cambridge design. Originating in the early 1900s, the Classic Cambridge design plays up muted aristocratic touches while remaining relevant in an increasingly economically democratic world. You can say that this design is a product of a distinct time in global timepiece history as it straddles the period where the old notions of nobility and blue blood entitlement gave way to the rise of the middle class and its focus on competition and meritocracy. Put simply, the Cambridge design’s appeal is that it speaks to middle-class values of elegance, sophistication, and understated class while retaining some of the exclusive elements of the bygone blue blood era. This design brings to mind ‘classical’ values of a bygone point in time.

No wonder it is so popular with watch fans who want an accessible, easy to recognize reminder of classical design and bespoke elegance-without necessarily hassling with the matching aristocratic price tag. When it comes to affordable classic Cambridge elegance, the 0103DW definitely delivers in spades. Not only does it evoke images of class and privilege, it is an imported timepiece you can buy without worrying about breaking the bank.

0103DW Movement Type

At first blush, you might be rubbing your eyes when checking out this Daniel Wellington 0103DW timepiece. After all, it has all the blue blood look and feels of a Cambridge watch you would associate with the nearest polo club or golf course lounge. However, it has one feature that explains its rather democratic pricing: it has a quartz movement. Not Japanese or Swiss quartz, mind you. This unit is powered by plain vanilla quartz movement.

Far from being the Achilles heel of this otherwise classy and elegant timepiece, its quartz movement is a small price to pay for an otherwise versatile timepiece accessory you can take to pretty much any event that requires class and sophistication. You get to create a nice impression while saving money. Who can argue with that?

When it comes to typical timepieces, simply measuring hours and minutes is enough. Indeed, showing the date and month might seem a luxurious extra for many watch models. This unit’s ability to measure seconds is a welcome bonus feature. Not necessary but a nice touch nonetheless.

If you are looking for a watch that is light and versatile, you need to give this model some serious consideration. Not only do you get a classic-looking watch for a price slightly north of one hundred dollars, you also get a nice simple yet elegant design that can pretty much go with all your semi-formal and casual clothes. It projects an attitude that conveys class without being overbearing, flashy or making you look like you’re out to prove something. In this day and age of over the top watch designs, the understated and quietly elegant Daniel Wellington Men’s 0103DW Watch’s design is quite welcome indeed.
