Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm Watch Review

The Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm is the result of a successful collaboration between two renowned Italian brands, Ducati and Locman. The two esteemed brands have combined to make a series of watches that not only look incredible but have impressive levels of engineering quality.

The red and black colors appeal to both Ducati and Locman fans, and the unconventional features make this watch a highly desirable addition to any enthusiast’s collection. Here we bring you everything you need to know about the Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm.

Origins

The Locman Ducati Automatic belongs to the newest generation of Locman-Ducati watches. The two companies entered into this partnership in 2017 when they began making three outstanding timepieces characterized by a refined design and high-quality materials.

The Automatic time and date model quickly became the highlight of this collection, partially because it’s produced in a limited and numbered series of 100 pieces.

When handling the watch it’s also apparent that the model underlines, through innovative design, the uniqueness of the Ducati brand. This is coupled with the undeniably Italian Locman features present on their regular production line of watches.

Locman is known for its creations based on innovative materials, which are usually combined with a sporty look.

Given that both Locman and Ducati pursue very similar philosophies, it was easy to see how the companies were able to start a successful collaboration and create watches like the Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm. The watch has the same unconventional features fans from both brands enjoy, whether you’re a watch or motorcycle enthusiast.

Design

Unlike the original design, which had the tonneau shape, the newest model of the Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm watch has a round case.

The beautiful round case, albeit quite ordinary for watches, makes it easy to combine with any outfit for an array of occasions. As an added benefit, the round case also made it easier to incorporate an even higher level of technological advancements within the casing.

Locman Ducati Automatic Case and Design

The Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm is regularly featured by Moto GP riders and management personnel, further alluding to the watch’s racing background. It makes this a must-have for anyone who loves both bike racing and watches, but any true watch fan would love this even without the Ducati connection.

This is further accentuated by the design features of the watch. Locman and Ducati have succeeded in making the lines, aesthetic details, and some characteristic features of the onboard race instrumentation wearable on one single watch. Which is unique but not at all uncommon in the watch industry, for example the dial of the modern Rolex Air-King which is designed after the dash of the supersonic Bloodhound SSC car.

Locman Ducati Automatic Side Profile

The dial is made from carbon fiber, and designed with geometric motifs, and when combined it provides a three-dimensional look. The watch even features the Ducati Shield, located at 12 o’clock which is a nice touch.

The different finishes that can be observed on the watch play on contrasts. The alternation between clean lines and technical details is clearly deliberate and well done.

For example, on the right side, the dial has a unique diagonal texture, which is contrasted by the clean area of the logos of the two brands. The same duality exists between the polished case and the satin-brushed lugs.

Tech Specifications

The Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm offers a competitive level of technological advancement when compared to all its predecessors and competitors.

The in-house caliber that powers it derives from the Italian School of Watchmaking (SIO) within Locman, and is called the calibre SIO1. The case has a mineral glass porthole, and the rotor is personalized with the Ducati logo as well.

The movement is housed in an AISI 316L surgical steel case with a titanium caseback, the case measures 42 millimeters in diameter. The titanium caseback has an exhibition window showing Locman’s expertise, complete with blued screws and iridescent bridge work.

The Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm-watch is further characterized by a strong personality, cutting-edge materials, and low weight, making it seem like it can perform as well on the wrist as on a straight line at 300 km/h.

The visible movement is striking to look at while also being relatively reliable, a great movement for a watch in the price range.

Conclusion

Since it’s limited edition, the Locman Ducati Automatic 42mm is definitely the most exclusive model of its line. The timepiece is waterproof up to 100 meters, while its elegant design makes it stand out from similar models on the market.

The implementation of an exhibition window was a great idea, it allows a sneak peek of the nice looking but workhorse quality 25 jewels stop-second movement, which is uniquely set in a titanium caseback.

In this stunning watch, we clearly see both brands values of state-of-the-art technology, passion for sports, and outstanding design.
