Nixon A083-1762 The 51-30 Chrono Silver Gunmetal Watch Review

Nixon A083-1762 The 51-30 Chrono Silver Gunmetal Watch Review

Nixon were founded to provide a younger alternative and sense of style to the American watch and accessories market. Their continual relationship with the surfing and snowboarding communities ensure that they continue to design watches that are infused with current trends whilst remaining practical to the core.

A083-1762 Functional Specs

Nixon are not known for their technical innovation, and the Nixon A083-1762 Mens Chrono Silver Gunmetal Watch is fitted with a Japanese quartz movement that isn´t exceptional for its high accuracy, but should prove reliable – a083-1762-back-photoalthough Japanese quartz movements are cheaper than Swiss movements, innovators such as Seiko have already established that they are perfectly capable of being competitive for much less money.

Nonetheless, the A083-1762 is waterproof up to 300 meters, and it has the unidirectional bezel function often found in diving watches that can be used to count down how long you have been under water (or doing anything else.) The screen is protected by mineral crystal – sapphire would have been better at this price, but this should be sufficient if you do not intend to use the watch in frequent, rough conditions. The crown and pushers screw down, as would be expected in a watch that is resistant up to 300 meters.

Fashion Style

Style is where the Nixon A083-1762 really stands out. The gunmetal dial and case are unusual, and draw attention without losing any of their practical, masculine appeal. The three chronograph dials are well-situated in a triangle at the center of the main dial, where they do not interfere with reading the hands of the main dial. The date window is similarly small and subtly placed at the bottom of the dial, out of the way. Meanwhile, the white color of the hands also helps make this watch easy to read in all conditions, without resorting to any neon shades. In short: this watch is stylish but it hasn´t sacrificed any of its functionality.

It should be noted that the A083-1762 watch is, essentially, a designer watch inspired by sports rather than a sports watch inspired by design. The over-large case is attractive to wear, but less practical forchrono-side-view sports as it is more likely to catch on things. Likewise, the lack of sapphire glass, and the standard quartz movement indicate that this watch is not designed for rough treatment nor with a focus on technical innovation. This does not mean that this watch cannot be used underwater or for sports, but simply that there are better alternatives if outdoor sports is a profession not a pursuit and you would rather sacrifice style for durability.

Final Thoughts

Over-sized, and imposingly masculine, the Nixon A083-1762 Chrono Silver Gunmetal Watch is ideal if you want a watch that will get attention wherever it goes. If your key motivator is style, then this watch undoubtedly has it. Likewise, if you want a watch that can accompany you on occasional adventures and help you retain your style during your 9 till 5, then this is a decent bet from a well-known lifestyle brand.
