The Armitron sport men’s 408231RDGY digital watch is probably the most budget-friendly timepiece I’ve ever used. As you might have guessed, it is a sports watch designed to be used for a wide-range of activities that involve a lot of moving around and whatnot. For the price you really can’t find a better affordable sports watch. My review will be taking the price point into account, so I obviously won’t be comparing it and judging it as harshly as something like an Invicta 80042. With this in mind, let’s get started.
408231RDGY Surprising Build Quality
The best thing about this watch is how “not cheap” it feels and functions. When it came, I didn’t really have high expectations and I sort of thought I’d be getting something close to what you’d get in a McDonald’s Happy Meal. Needless to say, I was completely wrong and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a light watch, sure, but it’s not flimsy by any means. I haven’t had it for long, but I’m confident that it will last for a couple years before something adverse happens to it. Pretty much everything on the watch is resin, and that should be expected for the price. I actually like the feel of resin watches and the Armitron 408231RDGY fits snug and won’t rip off your precious arm hair, which alone makes this watch better than most.
Functionality & Wearability
Like I said, it functions better than I had anticipated as well. When you’re looking at the face of the watch, there’s a ton of stuff going on. On the LCD screen you’ll notice digital dials for the chronograph and compass. The chronograph is neat and has the ability to have a countdown timer, lap timer, and an hourly alarm. The compass is okay, but it’s sometimes blatantly inaccurate. If you want a solid and consistent reading you’ll need to stop whatever you’re doing and stand still; at least that’s how it was for me. That being said, for the price, I’m impressed they have a slightly functioning compass at all. Everything else works just as you’d expect it to.
I’ve used the Armitron 408231RDGY while working out and it’s honestly better than a lot of other, more expensive sports watches I’ve had. Its size is quite ergonomic and doesn’t get in the way of whatever you’re doing. I noticed that other watches will pinch the heck out of my wrist if I’m doing pushups or something that has a similar motion, but this one gave me zero trouble at all. It also stays put while I’m working out and makes reading the time that much easier. Can’t really get much better than that.
Excellent Budget Sports watch
I think the Armitron sport 408231RDGY digital watch might be the best active life timepiece I’ve ever used for under $20. It doesn’t feel cheap in any way, although I do think the compass could be done a lot better. Everything else about the watch is solid and works really well. It’s easy to read, it’s useful in active situations, and it doesn’t get uncomfortable to wear after long hours of use. If you’re looking for a watch to supplement your active lifestyle and don’t have a lot of budget options, this watch is right up your alley.
