This military-style Citizen men’s AT0200-05E Eco-Drive watch is a sturdy piece of equipment with an active lifestyle in mind. Its simplistic design, coupled with incredible functionality, make this watch a great option for almost anyone who can afford it. While it’s not a super expensive watch, the mid-range price tag might be a bit too steep for some and alienate the customer base. However, if it’s in your budget, this is a fantastic option for a quality and reliable timepiece.
AT0200-05E Hardware Specs & Functions
Regarding hardware, the AT0200-05E watch features a stainless steel bezel and body and a canvas band. Both the body and band feel very well-constructed and show zero signs of wear and tear after 3 weeks of heavy usage. The dials and hands are well-protected underneath a protective mineral crystal dial window, so you can sleep safely knowing the delicate insides of the watch are safe. Speaking of insides, this watch features a Japanese quartz movement system and has an analog display. I’ve had absolutely no issues with the watch losing time, though the stainless steel textured crown makes it extremely easy to adjust the time if the need ever arose.
In terms of features, this Citizen model comes with a fully functional chronograph that has 3 standard dials for seconds, minutes, and hours, though the hours aren’t for the timer. The chronograph works very well and the buttons along the outside make it extremely easy to activate and use. The AT0200-05E also comes with Citizen’s Eco-Drive feature that powers the watch through a light source. The watch can take power from even the dimmest of lights without any issue and it doesn’t matter if the light source is artificial or natural. Citizen came up with this technology in 1976, so they’ve had 41 years to perfect it and this watch shows just how well they’ve done.
Outdoor Active-Man Style
Though the watch has a simple overall appearance and design, it does carry a unique aesthetic that shouldn’t be overlooked in the slightest. The green band contrasts well with the silver stainless steel body and accentuates the military-style design that the watch emanates. The black dial and silver characters make the watch very easy to read at a moment’s notice, and it also features a red second hand that contrasts well with the other colors. The numbers themselves are a decent size without being too large and overwhelming, and this makes the display that much easier to read.
The only thing that I consider a downside about the AT0200-05E is the fact that the chronograph maxes out at 60 minutes and then turns off. The buttons used for the chronograph are also fairly easy to hit, so it’s a bit problematic to know that you can accidentally mess up the timer if you move the watch the wrong way. As a result, I’d advise being careful if you have to time something important or just get a separate stopwatch in addition to this one to facilitate timing-related tasks.
Final Impression
I personally think this is one of the better options on the market for active/military-style watches. With it’s reasonable price point, the Citizen men’s AT0200-05E Eco-Drive watch comes with all the necessary features you’d expect from a mid-level active-oriented piece. The build quality is extremely high and the watch feels as though it will last for a very long time without any issues. You’d be hard-pressed to find a similar device for a similar price and have it perform just as well as this one.
