Citizen BM8475-00F Black Canvas Watch Review

Citizen BM8475-00F Black Canvas Watch Review

Citizen is a great watch brand that makes some affordable pieces for all types of functions and styles. Today we are going to be looking at one of their newer models called the Citizen men’s BM8475-00F black canvas watch. This model is part of the Citizen military collection, which is obviously quite apparent by its all-black stealthy look. These all black swat style watches are an amazing addition to any watch collection, mainly because they can be paired with practically any type of outfit from casual to formal and everything in-between.

BM8475-00F Design

It’s always a good idea to dive into the specifics of a watch. Sometimes you may see a piece that you really want only to realize the size is off or it’s just missing something, it’s hard to tell from just photos.

The BM8475-00F comes with a black canvas strap that is very comfortable on the wrist and is great for multi-purpose use. The back of the strap is lined with some kind of soft material so that your wrist is not backed right up against the canvas. One drawback about the strap, which seems to be the only negative of the entire watch, is that the buckle is a little annoying to fasten and it’s also a shiny chrome steel taking away from the stealthiness of the timepiece.

What a lot of people have needed up doing with the Citizen BM8475-00F is simply swapping out the factory strap for a leather alternative, or you could even choose a nato style strap.

Since the watch is black on black it’s not the easiest watch to read in the regular light, but the finishing on the inside of the dial is intelligently designed. The hands, number indices and dial background all appear to be a different matte shade of black, which makes it easier to read while also keeping it low key.

The bezel is nice and smooth, it’s pretty small and slim, giving off an overall classy look to the timepiece. It has an excellent design in my opinion and deserves a place in any collectors watch box.

Function

This timepiece is of course analog in its function, which doesn’t leave it with a huge amount of room for any fancy modern features. And as you can see from the face of the watch it’s fairly simple, with its main function being telling time and staying military stealth.

There is a very small amount of luminous coloring on the hands allowing you to tell time in low light conditions while also not attracting any attention. Being a military watch you would expect it to have some outdoor features, so the BM8475-00F is waterproof to about 330 feet, which isn’t huge but considered adequate for it’s intended use.

You can also find a little day and date feature on the right of the dial. It’s in a very tiny little window with no magnification bubble, but still legible and very useful.

A few specs:

  • The width of the stock strap: 21 mm
  • Case & Bezel: Stainless steel
  • Weight: 2.1 Ounces
  • Size: 42mm

Final Thoughts

Overall the Citizen men’s BM8475-00F black canvas watch is an excellent choice for its affordable price. If you want an all black watch that doesn’t stand out and that looks smart when worn to practically any occasion then it could be a great piece for you.

We don’t really consider it a sports watch even though its part of the military collection. It’s probably best categorized as a fashion watch but still very functional.
