There is a certain appreciation we all have for luxury and there are not many accessories that appeal quite like a luxury watch does. The only catch here is that luxury often comes with a serious price tag. Filippo Loreti has made it their goal to provide premium luxury watches and one of these that we have had the chance to try out is the Venice Moonphase timepiece. It is difficult to believe that this striking piece of craftsmanship is available at such an affordable price.
The silver colour of the watch gives it a tastefully clean and polished look that will finish off any look that you are going for with real class. These watches are Italian styled as an ode to the authentic Italian passion for luxury and craftsmanship.
White Silver Dial
The dial is a brushed steel with polished silver indices as the hour markers. The natural color of the brushed white stainless steel dial accentuates the silver indices without the need to add more excessive colors. Each index maker is also indented and there is a circular ridge along the index points to give the surface of the dial some texture. At 6 o’clock is the aperture where the moonphase indicator is displayed. The dark blue color stands out as the only bit of color that is dark on this timepiece. Just below that in black print is the Filippo Loreti name.
The calendar is displayed through the use of 3 indented dials. The dial at 3 o’clock shows the days, the dial at 12 o’clock shows the date which is displayed in odd numbers and the last of the additional dials shows the months with every second month having a dot as the index. In keeping with the theme the watch hands are silver alpha styled hands. One thing you might struggle with on the Venice is the lack of lume on any of the markers as well as the watch hands but in the bigger scheme of things this is not a cause for concern. The anti-scratch sapphire crystal keeps your view of the dial clear and in top shape.
Italian Craftsmanship
The luxury that is synonymous with anything Italian can be seen in a few different places with this timepiece. The case is round and is a polished reflective low-carbon stainless steel. The lugs protrude quite strongly from the case to make space for the 20 mm strap. The case diameter is not so large at 40mm and at 9mm in width it can go easily with any suit and formal shirt combination without being uncomfortable or bulging in the shirt sleeve.
Something that you won’t see with many other watches is the attention to detail on the back of the case with the intricate piece of art that is worked on the back cover. The art is that of Basilica di San Marco which is found in Venice and is where the watch model takes its name from. The steel casing gives the watch a nice weighty feel on the arm so it won’t be mistaken as a cheap knock off but it isn’t cumbersome.
The movement is Japanese Miyota 6P00 which is the moon phase quartz model of Miyota that reliably keeps the moon phase accurate and the time in this piece accurate.
Mesh or Leather
The Filippo Loreti watchmakers know that preferences change from person to person and some styles don’t suit everyone. For this reason they have included a genuine leather strap with the mesh strap that comes with the watch when you buy it.
The leather is genuine Italian leather that has the brand name on the inside of the strap and a buckle clasp. The mesh might not be for everyone because it is quite flashy considering that the watch case and dial are already quite eye-catching.
Final Thoughts
In an age where quality often gets related to the price you pay for something it is refreshing to see the Filippo Loreti watchmakers looking out for those that appreciate quality but might not be able to afford the high price tags that some of the more established brands carry. Even more impressive is that they are able to do this without sacrificing any actual quality but instead cut out some of the other aspects that drive up the cost. This should make us think twice in the future before deciding on the quality of a watch because of its price.
The watch is water resistant to 5 ATM and can withstand a lot of contact with water but when using the leather strap it is best to avoid showers and swimming with it because you might damage the leather over time. The Italian design exudes quality and the different styles each have their own special touch. The artwork on the back and the fact that the pieces are limited edition makes owning one of these even more special. The Venice will keep you happy for many years and is certainly a timepiece that can be kept and handed down the generations.

I’m considering buying from this brand instead of all of my overpriced crap… Matt, how does it feel?
Matt says
Hey Wiktor, It depends on the overpriced watches you are referring to. It’s possible they are expensive for good reasons. As far as Filippo Loreti goes, they are a very controversial brand, but my experience with the Venice Moonphase has been very good so far. The watch is very well built and has an excellent case size that I really like. I would recommend it if you’re looking for something understated, classy, and comfortable to wear.

My personal experience is very positive with this brand. The watch has an amazing minimal design and it looks expensive and elegant. I received a lot of compliments about the watch from friends. I’m waiting for their new design to grow my collection.

Hi Matt, thank for the review. There have been lot of comments about the details inside the dial and it not being symmetrical etc.. How was the one you received? Did you pay for the watch or was it sent by Filippo Loreti. I’ve already ordered a moonphase watch and I hope I don’t receive any unpleasant surprise!

Thanks for the review, Are you willing to review the smartwatch anytime soon?

I had an entirely different experience with this same watch. It arrived over a month ago and the first day I tried installing the mesh bracelet it broke and had nothing to do with human error. Filippo’s response was buy a new bracelet for $100. Still trying to return my defective watch now a month later. I respect companies that treat their customers fairly. I’m not that concerned over the money as the watch was just $350, but I am extremely dissatisfied with the way in which I was treated as a customer especially after I went out on a limb to trust this new company with my business.

I am one of their Kickstarter backers. I regret dealing with them. Their watch was 6 months behind schedule. On top of that they have poor communication for delays and continue to ignore customer complaints. Be warned!

Thanks for your feedback John

Their watches are sold on Alibaba for just $30. I regret buying from them.

I would avoid buying from these CON ARTISTS at all costs.
Fine If you want a ‘dress’ watch at a higher price than high street.
If anttthing is wrong they try everything to scam their way out of putting it right and are rude in the process.
They have damaged my watch but are blaming my in appropriate packing (following their recommendations and packing in the original packaging) not the fact that they lost it for a month! Now trying to send back damaged item to me as they can now not exchange.
I have photos of the original, they say they aren’t of high enough quality!
So far paid for watch, for return of exchange to me (although this hasn’t happened) and for returning in the first instance. Now I’m faced with having returned a brand new item to be sent back a damaged one!!!

Do not trust this company!! I placed an order in November 2018 and it’s now February 2019, and I have yet to receive my items. What’s worse is they keep giving me the run around about shipping. Total scam!!
Matt says
Thanks for your input Karla. Unfortunately I’m hearing about lots of stories very similar to yours. Hopefully Filippo Loreti will sort their act out soon.
