How To Travel With Your Watches

How To Travel With Your Watches

In spite of years of development, watches remain as one of the most delicate items ever created. There might have been wristwatches built to withstand some shocks, but if abused overtime, it will take its toll.

Unfortunately, when travelling, watches may sometimes make it into our suitcases or in our backpacks in the midst of rushing for a flight. It is a valuable item that us watch aficionados cannot do without, which puts these delicate tools at risk of getting crushed and scratched or dinged-up.

Luckily, there are ways to keep them safe regardless of where they are packed.

  1. Use Watchpod Travel Cases

This is the safest way to travel with your timepieces inside your suitcase or backpack – to put them inside their own watch travel case. Watchpod cases are the best on the market when it comes to protecting your watches while inside a bag or a case. They have a hard-shell casing that protects the watch from getting crushed, while its cushioned interior absorbs any impact from the shaking that it might endure while travelling through different terrains.

On the other hand, there are other options available, but Watchpod might be your optimal option.

  1. Keep the Heat Off You

Thieves always have their eyes out for jewellery, especially those that belong to tourists. More often than not unfortunately, these are the ones who are the most gullible; enjoying too much without a care in the world. This attitude is what costs us valuables, and this applies to wristwatches.

If you plan on wearing your expensive wristwatch outside, always be vigilant. Keep your eyes scanning your surroundings for any potential pickpockets or snatchers. Moreover, acknowledge everyone you pass by, especially those who look dodgy. However, the smartest thing to do is leave them at your place. Wear cheaper alternatives instead if you really need to have a watch. Reserve wearing your expensive Patek Philippe Nautilus for special occasions or more important meetings such as business deals or exclusive parties or events.

Lastly, do not wear them to parties where you might get drunk.

  1. Keep them SAFE

When going out and you live in a hotel, it would be smart to keep them in a safe. Some hotels have safe boxes available in their respective rooms. If not, you can always drop it off at reception and they will keep it safe for you.

On the off chance however that you do not fully trust a hotel’s safety deposit box, or the ones in the rooms, the smartest option you have would be your suitcase. Although, you run the risk of it being easily taken by someone else, at least, if tracing back, a suitcase can be easily detected with cameras. That is something you cannot hide anywhere.

Watches are delicate and are a very hot commodity to thieves so it can be hard to keep them safe all the time. The closest we will ever get to keeping them safe is through precautions, and these are just some of them, yet, the most practical ones to lull over with.
