Introducing the OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope

Introducing the OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope

OMEGA recently released its new 43 mm chronoscope, the latest addition to their well-respected – and some may even say legendary – family of watches. This new watch draws much inspiration from OMEGA’s past, but also delivers groundbreaking 20th century watchmaking technology.

1940s-Inspired Design

Visually, this new watch was inspired by the elegant watches OMEGA was putting out in the 1940s, bringing back the detailed snail design of that era.

This vintage charm is balanced with modern touches like the leaf-shaped hands and the spiral track pattern beneath the Arabic numerals on the dial.

Tachymeter, Telemeter, and Pulsometer

Gold case brown dial

The OMEGA Speedmaster Chronoscope features some exciting specs, including a tachymeter, a telemeter, and a pulsometer.

The tachymeter measures your speed based on the distance you have travelled. The telemeter measures distance based on speed of sound, so it can tell you how far away you are from something visible and audible (like lightning, for example). The pulsometer is a 30-pulse-per-minute scale that can help you measure your own heartbeat or someone else’s heartbeat.

Inside the Watch: Movement Details

This watch uses a manual-winding OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9908 with a beautiful finish, which is visible through the sapphire crystal on the caseback. It also has twin barrels with anti-wear Diamond- Like-Carbon coating, which improve its power reserve, and a column wheel mechanism.

The movement and watch are Master Chronometer certified, which mean that they have withstood the strictest tests in the watchmaking industry, as set forth by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

Choosing Your Model

If you decide to purchase an OMEGA Speedmaster Chronometer, you will be able to choose your model – one of six models in stainless steel or the model in bronze gold.

There are two stainless steel options with silvery dials and blue hands, two stainless steel models with blue dials and rhodium-plated hands, and two models with silvery dials and black subdials. They have anodized aluminum bezel rings in blue or black and your choice of leather straps with a new steel buckle or an attractive stainless steel bracelet.

The bronze gold option hasan oxidized bronze dial with a special patina finish and opaline silvery subdials. It has a polished brown ceramic bezel ring with a tachymeter scale in vintage enamel.
