Orient has gone sporty with its stylish Trooper SET0S001H0 automatic watch.
With a price mark in the $400 range (at the time of this review) this is certainly on the higher end for a budget sports style timepiece. Its stunning steel band encasing the lavish red face interior would suit anyone looking to live on the wild side. Its sporty design aims to appeal to a newer and younger type of market than previous designs that were used to seeing from Orient.
The two real issues with the SET0S001H0 happen to lay within its price range; with the price itself being for the higher end of the budget market, therefore, discouraging potential customers who are looking for an elegant sporty watch they can afford; secondly, the stainless steel band really lacks that sporty touch Orient are trying to achieve.

Casual & Sporty Design
Orient is trying to capture the hearts and minds of sports and watch enthusiasts across the globe. Its 42mm case encloses meticulous clockwork, which remains water resistant up to 50 meters; perfect for those who want to show off at the pool. But be aware, those with an extra ambition to dive to the depths may not find this suitable, as it’s not actually “diving certified”.
Although Orient have gone for the sporty feel, I can’t help but think that the steel band and attached clip may feel too “clunky” and heavy for those in real need of some adventure; weighing them down as they go; it may have been better off with a strap similar to the one found on Orients orange Mako watch. On the other hand, the stainless steel band does look impressive attached to the 42mm case, giving the watch as a whole, a professional and proud aura.
The SET0S001H0 Troopers colorful face, which includes sapphire crystal and red, has got to be its stand out feature. This wow factor really shows off the talented design work set out by the Japanese watchmaker. The colorful design really screams at me and the level of detail far outweighs that of other Orient watches, with other designs tending to go towards the simple and classy variant.
Trooper Goes Automatic
The pulsing heartbeat of the trooper is the 46B45 caliber, giving the sporty looking watch a useful purpose; a 24-hour subdial to establish day and night; perfect for the outdoors. The automatic design is a predominant feature in watches with a price tag of over $400, and the in-house built mechanics give it the accuracy of time you require.
The dial in this watch is something to be admired. The indentation between the hour marks really set this design off for me and makes it even easier than before to tell the time on the go and at a glance.
There is a day/date feature on the right side of the watch face but it’s very small and requires you to take a good hard look to see the number.
Final Thoughts
The Orient ‘Trooper’ SET0S001H0 watch is an impressive looking watch with all the necessary features you would expect and with a design to blow all others from the water. Its face has been engineered over time to ensure the ease of use to consumers, with an easy to read dial and a date/time feature which couldn’t be any simpler.
The sporty design gives the show off factor this watch deserves and with water resistant features and a sturdy feel, it’s perfect for those with an adventurous lifestyle. The price tag ensures that it stays competitive in the busy marketplace, and with such an attractive looking design and quality clearly a priority in production, who could resist?
