Swatch Linajola GN237 Blue Plastic Watch Review

November 4, 2016 by Matthew Catellier Leave a Comment — Updated on January 22, 2024

Swatch Linajola GN237 Blue Plastic Watch Review

The Swatch Group was founded to offer affordable, quality watches to the masses, and the Swatch unisex Linajola GN237 blue plastic watch is an attractive descendant of this tradition. Worth noting immediately is that although this watch is marketed as unisex, the strap length (22.3cm) is longer than the average female strap, but not as long as some male watches, so bear this in mind if you or the intended recipient has large wrists.

Plastic Design

The blue striped design is attractive and calming, with a youthful, fun appearance. The white markings contrast well, and their over-sized design leaves them easy to read (as are the baton hands.) Some people might consider the font style to be too messy, but we think that it works well and adds some freshness to the GN237’s casual design. Also nice is the subtlety of the Swatch logo on the dial- many cheaper watches come emblazoned with massive logos, but the limited size of the logo here saves this watch from looking cheap.

GN237 Movement

As is expected from the Swatch Group, the GN237 watch comes with a reliable Swiss quartz movement, which is good value for the cost. Beyond that, though, the watch has no real additional features- the dial window only has a plastic coating, the band is plastic, and even the case itself is plastic too (which may appear cheap to some people.) Whilst the watch is water resistant up to 30 meters, the design is not overly sturdy and it is not really designed for frequent, prolonged water exposure or for handling knocks. Nonetheless, the strap is comfortable even when doing exercise, so this watch is fine if you want something that you can take to the gym with you or to play a non-contact sport.

Overview

Overall, if you´re looking for a watch that is just a watch, and does nothing else, then the Swatch Linajola GN237 blue plastic timepiece is an attractive, fun-looking choice for those who want something to jazz up their outfit. Whilst it is clearly designed to appeal to younger women, the over-sized markings on the dial actually make this a surprisingly appealing choice to older women or those with vision difficulties too. It´s most definitely a casual watch, although worn with the right outfit it can still look acceptable as part of smart-casual office wear, so depending upon your job it may take you from day to night.

We would advise against this watch as a gift for older women, as the informality of the design and style are a matter of taste, but it makes an ideal gift for a teenage girl as it is reliable and comfortable without being too expensive. The design is also available in pink stripes if you are looking for something extra girly!
