Hamilton H64455523 Khaki Field King Automatic Watch Review

Hamilton H64455523 Khaki Field King Automatic Watch Review

Hamilton is a unique high end brand of stylish watches that combines the precision of Swiss technology with a design that reflects its rugged American roots. Founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Hamilton became the preferred watch for keeping time by railroad workers. The company also supplied the US military with timepieces. This history still shines in their current line of watches, including the H64455523 Field King, which we are reviewing today.

Hamilton watches are more than just tough and reliable, however, and their superior style has been recognized by filmmakers and celebrities since the early days of Hollywood.

H64455523 Design/Style

The Khaki Field King Automatic is an elegant watch inspired by Hamilton’s early military design, which goes back to designing watches for the war effort in the 1940s. The crystal is sapphire, the standard of high end watches. With a modern take on a classic design, the distinctive sword style of the hour and minute hands taper into a needle point. All of the hands, including the second hand, are silver. The hour and minute hands also have luminous accents that give this watch a sophisticated feel.

Classy enough for business settings yet not out of place in casual everyday situations, the H64455523 has a cream colored dial with a versatile beige strap. Other style varieties have a black dial with a choice between a darker brown strap or a bracelet that matches the silver of the rest of the watch. All the varieties have a stainless steel bezel that matches the overall sleek look of this classic Hamilton.

In keeping with its functional military design, there’s a lot of information displayed on the face of the Field King Auto, but it’s all arranged so it doesn’t feel crowded and it’s still easy to read. The Arabic numerals indicate the hour in both 12 and 24 hour time systems while baton markers indicate minutes with a numeral at the five minute markers. Additionally, the day and date are displayed at the 12 o’clock position. Unlike some automatic watches that slowly turn the display of the day and date, these switch over promptly at midnight.

There are other design elements that combine Hamilton’s signature elements of functionality and luxury as well. It can get wet and is water resistant up to a depth of 50 meters. And, in addition to the luminous accents that make the hands readable at night, there are also luminous dot markers at the five minute markers. After being exposed to light, the luminosity lasts longer than some other watches, making it an ideal candidate for telling time in the dark.

Movement

The luxurious style of the Hamilton H64455523 Field King isn’t the only modern upgrade to this classic military design. During World War II, Hamilton devoted all of their resources toward producing chronometers for the American troops. The accuracy of those chronometers was critical to the navy, as precise timekeeping was necessary to calculate their position at sea. That accuracy has only been improved by the Swiss technology in the ETA caliber 2834-2 movement.

Movement and case back

If you’re looking for an automatic watch, you may already be familiar with 2824-2 movement. The 2834-2 movement indicates that the day is displayed at the 12 o’clock position, in addition to the date. When talking about precision, some say that less is more and if you don’t need the day to be displayed, you’d be better off with a 2824-2 movement watch. However, like its predecessor, the H64455523 is still extremely accurate. The 2834-2 is on average only about two-three seconds fast every day, so if you like the aesthetic of the day display, you don’t really need to worry about its accuracy.

Other aspects of this watch by Hamilton make the movement smooth and reliable. The Khaki Field King Automatic’s rotor has a power reserve of 38 hours, making it perfect for something you don’t necessarily want to wear every day. You can also see the smooth movement of the 25 jewels through the exhibition case. Complementing the watch’s rugged silver appearance, a few of the gears seen through the exhibition case are high quality gold.

Craftsmanship

When you marry the tough design of a military watch with modern Swiss technology, the expected result is a well crafted timepiece. The H64455523 delivers with its outstanding craftsmanship. The leather band is both high quality and durable, but may need to be replaced eventually depending on how much you wear the watch.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Hamilton’s H64455523 Khaki Field King Automatic is an extremely versatile watch that would be great for everyday wear. It’s modern and sleek but with a history of toughness and quality. The high end touches, like 25 jewel movement and a sapphire crystal, make this a watch for someone with sophisticated taste without being too ostentatious. This is a watch that you can’t go wrong with.

Enjoyed your commentary on this product. I purchased one. Love the look and feel. Also the reserve. You mentioned business and casual wear. Do you think there is a watch strap that could pull together the beige face and silver case for formal wear?
