Introducing the Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition

September 27, 2020 by Matthew Catellier Leave a Comment

Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition

The STIHL National Championship Air Races and Air Show, held yearly in Reno, Nevada, is one of the biggest events of the aviation world. Fans, pilots, staff, and volunteers were disappointed to learn that 2020’s September festivities were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The happy news, however, is that the event’s long-time partner, Oris, continued its tradition of producing a limited edition watch to support the world’s fastest motor sport.

Oris became the Official Timepiece Sponsor of the Reno Air Races in 2018, but the brand has been tied to aviation since the 1930s, when it first started producing watches specially designed to fit elegantly over pilots’ gloves.

Design and Technical Details

The Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition is a grey PVD-coated version of the Oris Big Crown ProPilot, a collection with cockpit-ready functionality and aesthetic. This one looks beautiful. The strap is made of black textile with blue leather lining, and a grey PVD-coated stainless steel folding clasp. The watch features center hands for hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as an additional 24-hour second time zone and circular date window functions. It also has a fine timing device and stop-second. You’ll also be able to read this watch in low lighting thanks to the Super-LumiNova luminous material on the hands and applied numerals.

The case of the watch measures 41mm (1.614 inches), is made from stainless steel, and has special engravings on the back. The sapphire top glass is domed on both sides with anti-reflective coating on the inside.

This Oris Limited Edition boasts a 42-hour power reserve and winds itself automatically, making it as easy and functional as it is visually appealing. You also won’t need to worry if you get this watch a little wet. It is rated as water resistant up to 100 meters (10 bars).

If you decide to purchase the Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Edition, you’ll also receive a certificate verifying its authenticity. It will arrive in a special presentation boxes that’s a keepsake in and of itself.

How to Get Yours

Only 1000 of the Oris 57th Reno Air Races Limited Editions are being produced, and they hit the market on September 24th. One can be yours for CHF 2’650 or 2’850 USD.
