Citizen BI5000-01A Quartz Stainless Steel Watch Review

Citizen BI5000-01A Quartz Stainless Steel Watch Review

The BI5000-01A quartz stainless steel watch from Citizen is a classic-looking dress piece that features a simplistic design, a professional aesthetic, and fantastic functionality. It’s a great device for those looking for a beautiful dress watch without spending a ton of money. It comes equipped with a stainless steel case and a calfskin leather wristband, and both of them look and feel incredible. As far as features go, it’s pretty simplistic and sticks to the classic appearance of a dress watch, so I’d consider it a pretty standard watch that people have come to expect in this genres of timepieces.

BI5000-01A Inner Workings & Comfort

The BI5000-01A watch has decent hardware and, as stated, features a stainless steel case and calfskin band. The watch feels extremely solid and well-built while maintaining a light and comfortable weight. The watch itself uses a Japanese quartz movement system and I haven’t had any issues with it losing or keeping time. The bezel is stainless steel as well and is completely stationary — another standard feature of most dress watches on the market. The buckle is also stainless steel and feels very sturdy, so I can’t really see a situation where it comes undone by accident.

The watch is extremely comfortable to wear and feels very slim and form-fitting. In terms of the specific measurements, the case has a diameter of 39 mm and a thickness of 8.5 mm, while the leather band has a width of just 22 mm. It has a very slim appearance and the black, white, and silver color scheme makes this watch compatible with almost any dress style. Every little detail of this watch feels as though it was created with the purpose of looking great, and I certainly think it hit that mark well. It might just be personal preference, but I really love the polished stainless steel body and post-modern style of design.

Functionally-speaking, the Citizen BI5000-01A is perfect. I’ve worn it for three weeks and haven’t had a problem with it keeping time, coming undone, or the crown popping out and screwing up the time. The white dial and silver accents make the display extremely easy to read, and the small window at 3 o’clock also displays an easy-to-read date. This makes it extremely easy to tell the time at a quick glance if you’re in a social gathering or on the go. It’s also apparently water-resistant up to 50m, though it’s not recommended you take it swimming or diving. I doubt you’d be doing it a lot since it’s a dress watch anyway, but it’s something to note.

Entry Level Dress Watch

Overall, the Citizen men’s BI5000-01A is a phenomenal watch for the price. It’s a perfect option for those who want their first dress watch and don’t want to break the bank to buy it. In addition, it’s perfectly functional and completely looks as though it would cost much more money than it actually does. It looks incredibly elegant and sleek and functions just as well. I’ve experience no issues with it keeping time, being prone to damage, or come undone and fall off my wrist. I’d certainly recommend this timepiece from Citizen as an entry-level medium-end classic dress watch.
