OMEGA’s Latest Moonwatch Now Master Chronometer Certified

Swiss luxury watch brand OMEGA has just announced the latest addition to the Speedmaster Moonwatch series. This is a popular, timeless collection known for being worn by Apollo 11 astronauts on their mission to the moon in 1969.

The 2021 update of the Speedmaster Moonwatch pays homage to the much-loved older models, while breathing fresh life into them with modern-day technology.

Master Chronometer Certified

Most notably, the new watches are Master Chronometer Certified. This certification is the – the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance in the Swiss watch industry.

To make these new watches Master Chronometer Certified, the watchmakers at OMEGA chose to incorporate a new movement called the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 3861. This gives the watch the ability to withstand magnetic fields reaching up to 15,000 gauss.

Caliber 3861 movement

The Caliber 3861 has a free-sprung balance spring and 48 to 50 hours of power reserve.

With the Caliber 3861 come a few more changes. The minute track is split by three divisions, while it was split by five in previous models.

Stunning Classic Touches

While the technology is new, many of the aesthetic touches herald back to the older, classic models. Speedmaster Moonwatch enthusiasts will recognize the asymmetrical case, step dial, and the double bezel caseback. They’ll also be touched by the classic “dot over ninety” and dot diagonal to seventy on the bezel ring, which is made of anodized aluminum.
